Microsoft Office Credentials Expired... AGAIN!
In case you didn't know, the organization of schools that I'm a part of provides access to Microsoft Office free-of-charge to the students.

I'm a student of a certain school board there, and they really provide great services. I get most of my schoolwork done through Office. When I have freetime, I have used PowerPoint to create some of my YouTube videos and I use Visual Basic 6 to make Visual Basic programs. I know VB6 isn't part of the Office suite, but that shows how much they are willing to provide, and lots more!

Anyways, last month or the month before last month, new computer restrictions were assigned to their computer that they gave me, which is the one that I'm composing this on right now. They decided to block all domain names except the ones added for school-related purposes, which isn't a whole lot. I give them domains to whitelist if I need them, which works out for the most part.

But Matthew, how is this related to Microsoft Office?

Well, ever since those restrictions were applied, Microsoft Office wouldn't stay signed in for more than a certain period of time, and the cached credentials would expire. Do you know what this means? Most of Office's functionality and its activation expire. Do you know what this means? I can't get my work done. Do you know what this means? I fail my classes because productivity has dropped down. Well, I'm failing my classes right now for a different reason...

This happened to my personal computer only if I changed the password, but why would this happen to my school computer if I did NOT change the password?

I'm glad you asked (unless you didn't ask)! My guess is that Office periodically "asks" a certain Microsoft server with a domain like blob.core.windows.office.blahblahblah.com (Which isn't a real subdomain as of typing, I think... Don't go to it) for verification of if the e-mail address has proper rights to use Office. If it can't access the domain, then the credentials expire after a certain amount of time.

I had to go through a whole lot of hassle the first time just so that Office would re-activate again and broke the laptop agreement in the process.

BUT HERE WE ARE! IT EXPIRED AGAIN! WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO WORK WITH OFFICE IF I HAVE TO WORK EVEN MORE TO CONTINUE USING IT?

Well, it's almost time to re-register my credentials before Office expires again.

Signing off,

Matthew // Ronture
